Low Speed Area, Hazardous Areas, and Blind Spot: Minimizing Occupational Hazards with Claitec

In our last post, we highlighted the benefits of the Pedestrian Alert System; and, as we continue to expand our relationship with Claitec, we'd now like to feature three more extraordinary products meant to minimize occupational hazards in industrial environments with high risk of accidents:

  1. Low Speed Area (LSA)
  2. Hazardous Areas (HA)
  3. Blind Spot (BS)

The LSA solution is specifically designed to lower forklift speeds in particular areas of a warehouse.  The system is also designed to reduce the speed of trucks in areas where others are working or in areas with high pedestrian activity.  When a truck is equipped with an LSA system, it will automatically send a speed limitation signal to the truck when it enters a pre-set area, ensuring that any potential accidents will occur at low speed, keeping danger to the bare minimum.

The LSA solution uses a panel of reflective coded bands, located on the roof of the doors or in areas where speed changes. When the forklift drives underneath the panel, the sensors decode the change in zone and proceed to activate the relay corresponding to that zone.  During setup, the user will map out their warehouse and determine each area to either be a "slow zone" or a "fast zone" and the system will proceed accordingly.

 This is the perfect system for any area with lots of forklifts or lots of people.

The second featured product is Hazardous Areas (HA).  HA is setup to prevent occupational hazards in conveyor belts or recycling pits.  It works by halting machine function when it detects a worker's fall on the conveyer belt, and it's designed to prevent serious accidents, including fatalities, from occurring at all.  The basis for it's functionality is centered around electric tags that must be worn by all operators.  Then all machines and conveyers are fitted with detector antennas.  The antennas will recognize if an operator's tag lands on the belt, and immediately cease operation.  The solution is also applicable when using machines such as crushers, compactors, and with edge detection in pits.  Again the goal is zero fatalities; and, if only one life is saved, it will have surely have been a worthwhile investment.

The third featured product is Blind Spot (BS).  As it's name indicates, this product covers any blind spots that may be present when operating in poor visibility areas, loading and unloading zones, and in areas with high forklift traffic.  The design is meant to indicate the right of way for drivers and pedestrians; and, similarly to Hazardous Areas, the system works after a series of tags and transponders are configured to respond when a potential accident may occur.  In this case, a traffic light is triggered from emitted light signals from the transponders that tell the traffic light to indicate who has the right of way.
